Cut @ Axo Light
After studying architecture and industrial design, Finnish designer Timo Ripatti worked for several design studios creating furniture and lighting objects. Today he is leading Helsinki based Studio Ripatti that works in the field of product design, mainly for clients from different European countries. In an interview for Italian lighting company Axo Light, Ripatti explains “My mission is to combine aesthetic, poetic and functional qualities in every project. I am fortunate to work with companies that have a broad design vision, which can rely on the most advanced production technology, which offers excellent service and show considerable attention to environmental sustainability”. Between 2015 and 2016 he developed U-Light together with Axo Light, a collection of large suspended lamps, in which metalwork plays a leading role, the same is the case for the CUT collection. At first appearance, CUT looks like a lamp with an uncomplicated structure. It is, however, the result of a creative process where experience and know-how of both metalwork and LED lighting techniques have enabled intelligent solutions in response to complex passages. Axo Light wanted to develop a lamp that could be oriented, positioned on multiple points while avoiding glare. The family consists of suspended, floor and table lamps. The light emitted is by the LED light source is filtered and partially reflected by the screen. Materials used are laser-cut aluminium, steel and acrylic diffuser. The CUT collection is produced by Axolight (IT) and was awarded the GOOD DESIGN Award 2019.
