Biodegradable Miss Sissi
FLOS will be the first company to use the revolutionary bioplastic designed by Bio-On. Flos iconic table lamp Miss Sissi will be presented in an innovative and completely biodegradable material PHA, thanks to the collaboration between Flos and  Bio-On. Miss Sissi FLOS lamp was designed by Philippe Starck in 1991 and has become an icon of the design lighting. Creativity, experience and international presence are complemented FLOS innovation of Bio-On, sole owner of the technology that produces PHA bioplastic. The agreement between the two companies was announced during the last Salone del Mobile in Milan in April. Made with Polycarbonate, one of the most widely used plastics in the industry, Miss Sissi has successfully passed the test with the new Bio-On bioplastic that was developed over the last five years in Italy. The PHA biopolymer is a revolutionary material, since it is made from waste from the production of sugar beet and sugar cane.  It does not require the use of organic solvents and is entirely biodegradable into soil and water. The arrival on the market of FLOS models made from this new material is planned for 2014. "We are proud to introduce the first product design in the world made from our biopolymer PHA, in partnership with such a prestigious brand and recognized as FLOS. Thanks to this partnership, "says CEO of Bio-On, Marco Astorri," We can say that we are at the beginning of a new era. The technology is available internationally and, thanks to the range of biopolymers developed by Bio-On, you can create a wide range of objects in all sectors where plastic is used today. " "We are pleased to meet this new challenge for the future," said Piero Gandini, President and CEO of Flos SpA, "since it represents the unstoppable Italian spirit of innovation, perfectly exemplified by bio-on. We were excited to continue testing on other products and materials, so that soon there will be a radical change in production friendly environment, we collect in our material and 'Cradle to Cradle' Soft Architecture. These bio-polymers on-although they can not really call it that, and the fact is that we should seek a new name, they represent a total revolution in the relationship between production and the environment. It is an honor to collaborate with a team as talented and as enthusiastic as bio-on.
