MAMO NOUCHIES @ INGO MAURER

The creative collaboration between Ingo Maurer, his team and Dagmar Morbach led to the MaMo Nouchies lighting collection. Ingo Maurer’s long-standing interest in materials and his passion for paper are combined with his admiration for Japanese art. With the MaMo Nouchies series, Maurer and Morbach pay homage to Isamo Noguchi, whose ideas were based on the traditional Japanese craft of Akari. All the shades in the MaMo Nouchies collection are made out of paper, each manipulated by hand with up to eight treatments to achieve the desired effect. Because of their stepless dimmable transformers, all the lamps can constantly provide a light according to the situation. The names of the individual lamps in the MaMo Nouchies series were all derived from the names of ancient tribal spirits from all over the world. The CON-QUI, for example, has such a sculptural presence that it is more a piece of art than a common table lamp. The paper and stainless steel in the lighting object work together to create a beautiful design. YSMEN, another piece of the MaMo Nouchies collection, appears to be constantly moving. The eye can’t help to be attracted to this outstanding piece of furniture. GAKU reminds the most of a calyx, spreading it’s soft light around the shade. Altogether, the MaMo Nouchies collection has a unique, organic look we really admire.
