Kartell

Kartell

The Italian Kartell is one of the leading contemporary furniture companies in the world. The plastic-based products and designs are widely considered to be highly innovative and of good quality. Kartell was founded in 1949 by chemical engineer Giulio Castelli. The first products were plastic accessories for the automotive industry and household goods. During the 70s their reputation was established by the exhibition at the New York Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Italy: The New Domestic Landscape. Consisting of a number of Kartell pieces from different designers. They include the Italian architect Marco Zanuso, the flamboyant architect and designer Ettore Sottsass Innsbruck and Gae Aulenti, the female Italian architect and lighting designer. Kartell's success can be measured by the statistics: The company sells products in more than 80 countries around the world. In 1999, a museum was opened dedicated to the company.
