Barber, Edward

Barber, Edward

Edward Barber was born in Shrewsbury in 1969. He studied at Leeds Polytechnic. After completing his Masters in Architecture at the Royal College of Art, together with Jay Osgerby, he founded
Barberosgerby in 1996 and went on to set up Universal Design
Studio ltd in 2001. Since then they have worked for a diverse
range of international clients including Cappellini, Magis, Flos,
Classicon, Venini, Isokon plus and Swarovski.

In 2004, they won the Jerwood prize for Applied Arts.
Other awards include: Designer of the Future (with Established
and Sons Company) Miami Basel 2006 and Elle Decoration
Designer of the Year in 2007. In the same year, they were
awarded the distinction of royal designers for the industry by
the royal society of arts. Their work is on display in the
permanent collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London;
Design Museum, London; the Metropolitan Museum of Art,
New York and the Art Institute of Chicago.
