Groppi, Davide

Davide Groppi was born in Piacenza, Italy in 1963. Groppi spent his childhood designing and constructing mechanical inventions with his father, who taught him how to create and build from spare parts. But also how to appreciate the beauty of a well designed and solidly constructed object. Together they built a pinball machine, a telegraph and ... a lamp. Groppi began working in the field of mechanical design in 1985 before he started to sell lamps of his collection in 1988. As years went by, Groppi became well-known for his lighting work, which conveys emotion, weightlessness, and simplicity. His career took off when he first participated in Salone the Mobile in 1994. Davide Groppi has collaborated with many distinguished brands including 967 Design, Boffi, Christofle, De Padova, Harry Thaler, Omar Carraglia, Paola Lenti, and Sara Frattini. Groppi's has received several honours over the years, including the Edida Award (2011), Design Plus Award (2014) and the ADI Compasso d'Oro Mention of Honour (2016).
